Matthew Prewett:
Franchise Owner at
the Brothers that
just do Gutters in
Atlanta, Georgia

Franchise ownership wasn’t always the career path that Matthew Prewett had in mind. With experience in sales management and five years working in the banking industry, he realized he wanted something more from his career: greater control over his destiny.

It was the pandemic that ultimately amplified his dissatisfaction with the corporate world. Motivated by his desire for financial freedom and personal fulfillment, Matthew transitioned into franchise ownership at the Brothers that just do Gutters in Atlanta, Georgia. What mainly drew him to the company wasn’t an existing knowledge of gutters or interest in home improvement services, but the emphasis on personal growth.

“I was looking for different franchise concepts and landed on the Brothers that just do Gutters due to, really, their brand values…A big part of it was their zeal for personal development.”

One of the most valuable traits Matthew acquired was managing stress and not letting it affect his team and their operations. During challenging times, he leans on fellow franchisees and business owners in other industries for support. They vent, share ideas, and keep each other updated on what’s going on—from dealing with tight cash flows to rescheduling jobs when multiple employees call out sick. This support system takes some weight off his shoulders, knowing that others have gone through similar experiences.

Matthew’s hard work and dedication in the franchise have not gone unnoticed; he was recently recognized as 2026 IFA Franchisee of the Year. When asked how franchise ownership has personally impacted him, he says that it has given him greater appreciation for blue-collar workers.

“They’re the ones literally building America. When everyone’s like ‘It’s too hot to sit on a porch,’ they’re out there on a roof working in 97-degree heat.”

Making a difference starts within the local community. The Buckhead location has become the go-to gutter service in several neighborhoods, with even 2-3 cleanings scheduled on the same block. Matthew attributes his business’s success to a combination of traditional and digital marketing efforts. He recalls a Harvard business study showing that the typical customer needs at least seven “touches” before making a purchase. Whether it’s through a direct postcard, yard sign, company truck logo, or Facebook advertisement, planting seeds in several places is what brings them leads and eventually, loyal customers.

Their clients range from multi-millionaires to government officials and average-income families. No matter the financial background, Matthew says that everyone has the same emotional approach when it comes to taking care of their homes.

“At the end of the day, we’re all human. We’re all people. Gutters are really about protecting someone’s home, protecting someone’s biggest asset, protecting their family, and giving them that peace of mind.”

Now a seasoned franchise owner, Matthew’s main motivations are achieving financial freedom and providing a better future for his children. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, spending time with his family, and volunteering with the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal organization.
